Seniors-4-Seniors Announces Fall Program

NEVER TOO OLD TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY

Senior citizens are joining forces to educate, advocate, and act on behalf of their peers.

Seniors 4 Seniors is now accepting perspective candidates for the Senior Advocacy Training program starting this October at the Commission on Accreditation for Home Care (CAHC) located in Saddle Brook, New Jersey. This consumer educational program provides intensive training to empower senior citizens to advocate on senior issues and to improve the quality of life for our aging population.

The Department of Labor projects adults age 65 and over will account for 22% of NJ’s total population by 2030. Despite the surge in the population, many local policies and programs are developed with little to no input from seniors. Hence, the more our seniors learn about programs and issues that will affect them, the greater they will be empowered to successfully advocate on the behalf of their community.

CAHC is the leading NJ-based non-profit agency providing home care accreditation for Personal Care Services and In-Home Skilled Nursing in NJ. Included in CAHC’s mission is consumer education, thus the Seniors 4 Seniors program was developed to educate consumers on how to address the concerns of senior citizens in order to become effective change agents.

The 7-session training program, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in October, teaches seniors how to research issues affecting their community, develop proposals on initiatives, communicate with elected officials and effectively advocate. The course fee of $200 includes all course materials, snacks, beverages and lunch. Scholarships are available to qualifying participants.

If you would like more information about this topic contact Don Winant at CAHC;                  (201) 880-9135 or email don@cahcnj.org.
